The Space Light

This is the Space light.

The form of this light came from an accident when I was making the 3d model of another design. I extended the profile sketch too far resulting in a teardrop shape, which I liked. It was simple, just one profile sketch extended from either side. I played around with this idea using different shapes, one of them being a ring of circles which evolved into this pendant light. I didn’t have Space in mind during the process, that only came after I had made the light and added a bulb. The circles in the profile almost mimicked planets around a sun, represented by the bulb. The side profile reminded me of a UFO shape with a beam of light emitting from the base and all.

What started from a mistake has slowly become one of my favourites. I tend to put a lot of pressure on everything I make having a solid story, which can sometimes inhibit my ability to design freely. This light is hopefully the start of me designing with better intentions.
